Scrapblog™ Announces Series A Funding from Longworth Venture Partners

MIAMI, FL - March 6, 2007 - Scrapblog, the first web-based service for creating and sharing multimedia scrapbooks, announced that Boston-based Longworth Venture Partners led its Series A round of funding.

Scrapblog had been self-funded by its founding partners since development started two years ago. Later this month, the company will release its free, web-based multimedia scrapbooking service, which was first announced at DEMO Fall in 2006. “The timing is perfect for us to welcome outside capital”, said Carlos Garcia, CEO and co-founder of Scrapblog. “In Longworth, we found a venture partner that shares our vision of where social media is headed and the importance of ‘design online’ tools in the future of the Web.”

Jim Savage, Partner at Longworth, commented on their investment. “We are excited to be joining Carlos and the team. Scrapblog is an innovative leader, demonstrating that the next generation of rich Internet applications will enable a dramatic leap forward in Web-based media sharing and online design.”

Scrapblog is designed so that everyday people can mix their photos, videos, audio, text and other creative elements to create multimedia scrapbooks called scrapblogs. Besides the content uploaded from their computers, users can aggregate content from some of their favorite social media sites including YouTube, Photobucket, Flickr, Yahoo! Photos, and Webshots. Users can share their scrapblogs with just a few friends or the entire world. Also, Scrapblog supports direct publishing to Blogger, Typepad, Wordpress, Flickr, MySpace, Facebook and other popular social networking platforms.

“We met with a number of venture firms as part of this process and were most impressed by Longworth’s knowledge of the market and their thoughtful due diligence. We respect their willingness to roll up their sleeves and help us achieve our vision and build our company” commented Garcia.

  1. [...] We’ve been hard at work here leading new investments in exciting early stage companies. Hot on the heels of Cellufun, we recently completed the Scrapblog Series A round of financing. My last post articulated our investment thesis about the disruptive potential of emerging Rich Internet Application (RIA) companies. We believe that Scrapblog will be one of these companies. Probably the easiest way to get a feel for the product is to watch a product demo (the product will be launching shortly). [...]
