Friday Five Mix

June 29, 2007 | In: Journaling | By Alex

Since our launch in April, Scrapblog has grown in new ways. Most recently, the educational sector has begun using Scrapblog in the classroom for teaching and for presentation of school projects. Also, librarians are discovering the potential of our service. We’ve also seen the interest from non-profits, which we’re eager to support as well. We’ll be documenting these and other uses of Scrapblog over time.

In the meantime, here’s our five picks for this week, the Friday Five or F5, as we call it internally:

Salinah from Singapore has created some beautiful scrapblogs, including this album of a visit to the “National Orchid Garden”:

Leslie M put together a wonderful scrapblog of her family’s visit to “The Canadian Rockies”:

SAS0418 created a her “Summer” scrapblog:

epidemia made a long one on “Skateboarding,” with some great shots:

And
sueszq
used sepia tones perfectly in her “My Family” album:

The sepia tones really go well with the theme she chose. In addition to these, we saw many more excellent scrapblogs during the week and are having fun discovering how creative everyone can be!

Summertime F5

June 22, 2007 | In: The Friday Five | By Alex

Yesterday was Midsummer, the summer solstice, and from now on the days get shorter in the Northern hemisphere. To celebrate summer, our scrapbloggers have inspired us with their beautiful creations. For one, Lis311 beautifully retells her trip with her daughter to Corpus Christi, Texas:

And ang7880 made an amazing scrapblog of her family’s trip to Ft. Walton Beach:

Summer is also a time for romance, as told by SugarKristals :

Shopscrapbooking did something we haven’t seen here before, by linking to a public photoalbum on Facebook. The link is on the last page of their scrapblog, which shows their summer trip to Busch Gardens, Tampa, Florida:

This week we also noticed a remarkable scrapblog from Canada, by Laurie. Please have a look!
.

And now it’s time to get out, have fun, enjoy the summer … and take some pictures!

You asked for it!

June 20, 2007 | In: Community, New Features, Tips & Tricks | By Alex

Thanks to your feedback, we’ve spent the last few days working on some very exciting features! We’d like to thank you for your requests, you’ve been instrumental in helping us define and prioritize our development in three key areas:

First, you thought we should simplify the invitation process for scrapblogs. So, we included the Plaxo widget in the Builder for you to easily invite your friends from your address book in Plaxo, Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo!, AOL, Outlook or from a contact list on your hard drive. To use this, just click on Share in the Builder, Send Invite and then Import Contacts. As easy as 1-2-3!

Next, we updated our use of the Flickr service in two ways. Now, you can search not just your own photos, but everyone’s photos! This is really big news. For one, it will make it easier for you to create a scrapblog of an event where many people took pictures and posted them to Flickr. Also, we think this will help students create school projects where they should illustrate specific topics. Please make sure to respect the Creative Commons license of each picture you select. We also updated our use of Flickr so that you do not need to authenticate each time you open the Builder; once you’ve authorized Flickr, you should remain authorized.

The third new feature which was widely requested was being able to download your scrapblog pages. Well, now you can do so! When you’re in the Builder, click on File and then on Export to JPG and follow the instructions. You will then be able to access your individual scrapblog pages from your hard drive and perhaps print them out or share them on other communities you may belong to.

We hope you’ll enjoy these features!

How-to create a photo book with Scrapblog™ for under $10

June 16, 2007 | In: BlogHer07, Community, Tips & Tricks | By Carlos Garcia

Many of you have been asking about printing your scrapblogs. We are working on it. Meanwhile, here is a crafty solution to create a beautiful album with your scrapblog pages.

I just printed the pages of one of my scrapblogs through Flickr (4×6, matte). I also ordered a 5×7 album from KOLO.com. Assembling the album is quite simple and the result looks much better than most photo books I have ordered online. Better yet, the total cost of the project is $10 plus shipping.

Click here to see a step-by-step how-to-guide and photos of the final product.

An eventful F5!

June 15, 2007 | In: The Friday Five | By Alex

In the past week we’ve seen lots of beautiful scrapblogs! To select from them, we thought we’d highlight scrapblogs that celebrate different types of events, inluding:

Tony Parker and the San Antonio Spurs’ victory! Our friend kr8tr created this scrapblog in their honor:

The birth of a baby, by Maternal Mirth. Coincidentally, she gave birth the same day Margarita gave birth to Carlos Garcia’s, our CEO’s, second son.

A 50th birthday! :trond: tells 50 years of his life in 50 seconds in this scrapblog:

A murder mystery party, as retold by Mid-South Delta Leaders:

And finally, a wedding, by our recently bethrothed friend Melissa:

We look forward to seeing your scrapblogs celebrating your events!
