2007’s Top Featured Scrapblogs (and Happy New Year!)

December 31, 2007 | In: The Friday Five | By Alex

As the year draws to a close, we wanted to look back at the wonderful scrapblogs that have been created over the year. We have featured many of the most creative and story-telling ones in our regular feature, “The Friday Five“, that highlights innovative uses of Scrapblog. Of the many tens of thousands of scrapblogs that have been published publicly, about 150 have been featured in The Friday Five. These scrapblogs often represent the highest form of art, emotion, storytelling and craft.

Of these, some stood out for their beauty, the new techniques that were used, the power of the story, the simplicity, the scrapbooking style and many more reasons. These scrapblogs influenced us in one way or another. They made us marvel at the skill, they made us look and take note and many made the community learn, laugh, share stories and connect.

More importantly, some of the scrapblogs featured below belong to users whose overall body of work is impressive and formidable and who have been active community members. Alas, we have not featured all active community members, who know who they are and who will be featured in our blog’s “Profiles” category over the coming months.

A few of the scrapblogs belong to Brazilians, who have been a definite and welcome presence at Scrapblog. We saw a strong interest and growth in users from Brazil, who love to create photo-montages (”montagens”) and collages for use in their own social networks. We are preparing a Portuguese version of the Scrapblog site to cater to the many thousands of Brazilians here.

We arbitrarily chose 12 outstanding scrapblogs that stood out this year, which are featured below in no particular order:

“DW and the Snowball”, by Lala’s Blog:

Oh, and just in time, we would like to extend our best wishes for a Happy New Year!

We’ve been highlighting some of the scrapblogs you’ve created that have stood out for their story, for the care with which they’ve been created and for their creativity. With time, we’ve seen many new uses for scrapblog. We’ve seen invitations to parties, birth announcements, cookbook recipes, scrapbooking, travel diaries, artistic portfolios, book reviews, history lessons, weddings, birthdays, poetry, genealogy, school projects, charitable causes, pets, photography … and the list keeps growing. We’re trying to make scrapblog as versatile as possible to allow free reign to your creativity and to meet your storytelling requirements.

Most of these scrapblogs are featured in our weekly series we call The Friday Five, (generally published over the weekend). Here are this week’s scrapblogs that caught our eye:

Scrapblog your SmugMug photos

December 13, 2007 | In: New Features | By Alex

We’re pleased to be working with SmugMug! If you’re a SmugMug member, you may now access your photographs by logging in to SmugMug through the Builder. Once you’re done editing your scrapblog, you may publish and post the scrapblog back to SmugMug!

Incidentally, they held their five-year anniversary party last Friday in their offices in Mountain View, CA. Here are some pictures of the event:

By adding SmugMug, we want to make it as easy as possible for you to use your own media with Scrapblog. To date, we’ve been proud to work with Flickr, Photobucket, Webshots, Facebook, Picasa and YouTube so you may access your photos and videos on the web.
