Future of Web Apps and BarCampMiami
Last week was a busy one for us and an exciting one for the tech community in Miami. The outstanding technology and new media conference, Future of Web Apps, or just FOWA, was held at the magnificent Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, Knight Concert Hall. Yes, a tech conference in an opera house, attended by about 600 people from across the US, Europe and South America. Nice! We were also pleased to host the Official Scrapblog FOWA Party, at Nikki Beach in Miami.
We appreciate the hard work the outstanding people at Carsonified put in to this conference, and their commitment to hold it in Miami. Surely the local tech community and university students are appreciative as well.
In conjunction with FOWA, on Thursday afternoon and evening I organized an event with the help of local designers, developers and technologists Nick Dominguez, Chris Saylor, Michael Montgomery and Brian Breslin. BarCampMiami had about 250 to 300 people show up and participate. Over 30 presentations were given and 16 local companies sponsored the event. It went really smoothly and people appreciated the learning and networking opportunities, particularly with so many people from out of town. A strong interest in BarCamp is a sign of the tech community getting organized; the next BarCamp in Florida will be held in Orlando: BarCampOrlando.
We’ve made Scrapblogs of both events! (We also added a bunch of photos to Flickr).
