Creating a Silhouette-Blend Effect
Karen (”little_m“) has been developing innovative techniques in Scrapblog (here’s one on changing eye color), and she has discovered a new one. On page 25 of “Oakland, Florida, USA“, you will notice silhouettes of children playing over a picture a playground:
This was a challenge to make, but Karen figured out how. In her own words,
“One of my other favorites and probably the most difficult page I’ve created in this scrapblog is the playground page! That page almost didn’t happen! I struggled with making those children ‘blend’! The problem was that the picture I found online had a blueish gradient ‘real sky’ background:

I used the color-picker to match the color of the sky in the photo, as closely as I could. I then used the opacity option to lighten the photo up a bit, just enough to make it all blend! If you look closely at it, you’ll see the ’seam’ just above the children on the left and right-hand sides of the center playground picture.
Also, I wanted the children to go all the way across the page, so I copy and pasted the photo one more time, then I cropped one of the photos. Again, if you look closely at the page, you’ll see seams between the 3rd and 4th child and the 6th and 7th child! My eye is automatically drawn to these imperfections everytime I view the page, but I still love it… just because I struggled with it for a fair amount of time! My goal was to somehow put some children on that deserted playground and I like the almost ghostly effect of the silhouettes!”
We think this looks great and the page is very creative. Thanks for sharing, Karen!

What are people saying?
little_m is always very generous in giving us tips about how she creates such special effects. I may not actually get to do the same myself, but I love reading about her techniques and her scrapblogs have certainly inspired me to try out some of the more interesting features which ‘Scrapblog’ offers the user.
Karen thanks for taking the time to explain in such detail how to create this effect…….as Alex said in one of his comments…….”you are wonderfully generous with ideas and tips, and I think the whole community appreciates and learns from your innovations”.
I concur completely!!!
Peg
Thanks, cazjane and Peg… you’re both so sweet! I’ve decided to publish some “How To” scrapblogs which will describe this technique and more! Thanks again for your kindness and for being such great friends!
thank you for sharing your tips. In the beginning the program looked so simple, but it is amazing what you can doe with it, being creative. Ciao! Alida
